An experienced tourist guide will be waiting for you with morning coffee at the Tourist information point in Kamnik, where he will present the entire itinerary to you, and explain all the important information about Velika Planina
This will be followed by a tour of the interpretation centre, where you will be able to explore all the natural and cultural landmarks of Velika Planina, through an innovative audio-visual experience. If you so wish, you will also be able to have a tasting of the traditional Rušovec drink.
After the tour, you will take a short transfer to the cable car, where a local guide and a shepherd will be waiting for you. Together you will take a cable car and chairlift ride to Velika planina, where your first stop will be the restaurant Zeleni Rob, at which point you will enjoy a traditional brunch, while admiring the beautiful views that the restaurant’s terrace offers.
Following brunch, your guide will escort you to your accommodation in a luxurious traditional alpine cottage, where you will be able to take a short break, to relax a bit, before your experience continues.
Rested and refreshed, you will now embark on a shepherd’s experience, through which, you will get to know the history of shepherding. A specialized guide will take you on a tour of the Shepherd’s Village, which is one of the best-preserved villages of its type in Europe. At the conclusion of the village tour, you will now visit the Preskar museum which is the only example of an oval shepherd’s hut, converted into a museum, and the Zabrška bajta, one of the two huts build on Velika Planina in the original style after the second world war. Followed by a visit to the chapel of Marija Snežna, build after a sketch by the famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik.
The tour will be followed by a traditional shepherd’s lunch at the Gradišek shepherd’s hut.
After lunch, you will head to a local shepherd, who will present to you his workday and the process of cow milking, which you will be able to also try for yourselves. You will also be able to take part in a workshop, educating you in the art of preparing the traditional local cheese Trnič. When you finish, your guide will escort you back to your accommodation.
In the evening hours, you will receive a visit from one of the best local chefs, who will prepare for you, a modern interpretation of a traditional dinner using only the finest locally sourced ingredients. After dinner, if you wish, your guide can take you stargazing, since Velika Planina has a very low level of light pollution.
Followed by an overnight stay in your luxurious traditional alpine cottage, known for its traditional architecture
